Diwali Wall Decoration Ideas Beyond Traditional Rangoli and Lights
Most homes celebrate Diwali with rangoli at the door as well as lights lining the balconies. However, it is your walls that guests view during the evening. One wall can carry more of the celebration than another string of lights. Written around the Kolkata-based Excel Home Décor, a designer wallpaper brand that has been serving the home décor industry for over 20 years, this guide explores festive ideas for your walls, murals and finishes. The Homefest sale is live on the Excel website and the offers are covered below.
Why Look Beyond Rangoli and Lights This Diwali?
Rangoli sits on the floor and the lights come down within days. Neither affects how the room looks in photos of the family, which are typically taken in the lobby facing a wall. According to Excel Home Décor, the first rooms to look at are the ones where guests will see first: living room, entrance, dining room and a guest room. Use the “guest’s eye” by walking through your home as a visitor and record the walls that are blank, worn, or “boring” in your home. These are the ones that will be best served by the use of designer wallpaper for walls or a mural.
Which Designer Wallpaper for Walls Suits a Festive Living Room?
There are several directions given in Excel’s festive guidance list. The emerald and maroon markings with gold are similar to the brass diyas or marigold garlands. Large botanical prints add warmth but not overpowering. Geometric finishes have texture that will capture the light of the lamps in a way that flat paint will not. Paisley and mandala designs work nicely on a single feature wall, and a light, metallic tone on a wall will capture the light and help make a small room appear less claustrophobic. Damask suits homes where the elders like a traditional look.
A catalogue has been included of some options for each mood. Tree of Life (7809-1) and Bloom of Spring (7808-1) are from the Deshaj collection, the latter being inspired by Kalamkari textile borders. Mystical Gulbahar (7806-1) is a damask with floral motifs that are reminiscent of chintz. The two deer in a leafy glade are characteristic of Hirana (HR-W-01) which is influenced by the Rajasthani painting style. Each is a designer wallpaper for walls that can be used in festive rooms without additional decoration. Wallpaper is part of the Homefest sale on the Excel site at flat 25% off.
How Do Wall Murals Online India Work as a Festive Backdrop?
A wallpaper is a pattern that repeats across rolls; a mural is a single image that’s used for a wall. A search for wall murals online India wide will reveal that Excel has 21 collections of murals under its mural category, which include Artistry of Pichwai, Mughal Art, Radhe Shyam, Ethnic and Nature’s Canvas. Indian Heritage, Spiritual and Botanical are the different designs available and you can even filter the online listing by colour such as gold and maroon.
For festive rooms, the subtle floral motif or a gold-edged geometric pattern are the perfect ideas per Excel’s own tip, as they both will reflect diyas and fairy lights well. When it comes to decorating a small space, opt for lighter shades and simple, or nature-inspired, designs. Murals can be scaled to the wall size and Excel claims it can create a mural from your own digital art, so it’s possible to make it a family motif. If you order wall murals online India wide, make sure to accurately measure the wall before ordering. Murals made for indoor walls should not be exposed to moisture continuously and must be smooth and dry, with old coverings removed. Under Homefest, wall murals on the Excel site carry flat 15% off.
Where Else Can Walls Carry the Celebration?
A first impression is formed by the entrance wall. A textured wallpaper is a classy choice and an eye-catching mural can be used, provided the space is large enough and it’s durable, as it’s a space that will be utilized daily. The next contender is the dining area. Don’t hang several pictures, use a patterned background for the table and add food and lamps.
There is a need for a different approach for a puja corner. The cream or soft beige colour of the texture is a good option as it allows the lights and rangoli to play the role of visual elements and a calm wall behind the puja shelf will do the job. The self-adhesive wallpaper is a good option for tenants and those wishing to change the theme every year: Excel lists it as one of the easiest to install and remove wallpaper options.
How Does Lighting Affect the Colours of Walls?
Beige, gold and terracotta colors tend to appear more vibrant in warm lighting, whereas greys and blues appear more muted in cooler light. For metallic finishes, dark wallpapers, high-contrast patterns and textured surfaces, Excel recommends that you see a sample in both warm lamps and natural light before ordering. A design that looks right online may appear different in your room.
What to Consider When Choosing the Best Wallpaper Brands in India?
With the same questions for all the wallpaper brands in India, it is easier to shortlist the best wallpaper brands in India. What kind of material and ink is the base of it? According to Excel, its wallpapers are based on pure non-woven materials, latex water-based inks and low-VOC formulations. How wide is the range? Excel lists wallpaper, wall murals, flooring and INKRAFT, a line of designer wallpaper with collections like Floral Dynasty, Modena and Nomadic Tales. Flooring is in the Homefest sale too, at flat 10% off. Does customisation exist, is there a sample to view and what are the installation and return terms?
Excel Home Décor describes itself as one of the best wallpaper brands in India, which you can check out by answering the above questions. Before making a decision, request samples and written terms for installation from the best wallpaper brand in India.
Conclusion
Diwali walls don’t have to be noisy. Select one wall, match the pattern to your lights, and schedule for delivery and installation in advance of the festival. After that, ask the people at Excel Home Décor for samples of designer wallpaper for walls and murals and compare them to your diyas and lamps. The Homefest offer is a limited period one, applies to selected items on the Excel website only, and discounted products are not refundable, so read the Home Fest terms first.
FAQs
Q.Which Designer Wallpaper for Walls Works in a Small Living Room?
A soft metallic wallpaper is ideal for small rooms as its light-reflecting surface does not make the space feel cramped. Excel also suggests lighter tones, minimal designs and nature-inspired patterns for compact rooms. Only use the design on one wall, and test the sample under both lamps and daylight before you commit to a full order.
Q.Can I Order Wall Murals Online India in a Custom Size?
Yes. Excel produces murals in custom sizes and says it can print a motif from your own digital artwork, so a family design is possible. Share exact wall measurements when you order to avoid gaps or overlaps. As Diwali approaches, confirm production and delivery time first, and ask about installation support and return terms before you pay.
Q.How Do I Compare the Best Wallpaper Brands in India?
Compare base material, ink type, design range, customisation options, sample availability, installation support and the return and exchange policy. Ask each brand the same questions and request physical samples. View them at home in warm and natural light so the comparison reflects your own room, and note which brand answers each question clearly and in writing.
Q.Are Wall Murals Suitable for Bathrooms or Outdoor Walls?
Excel states that its wall murals are made for indoor use and should not be constantly exposed to moisture or wetness. They suit living rooms and bedrooms better than bathrooms or open balconies. For humid spaces, ask the team which wallpaper material suits the room before ordering, and keep murals well away from damp or leaking walls.
