COLOUR PSYCHOLOGY IN INTERIOR DESIGN

“Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.” -Wassily Kandinsky

Have you ever wondered about the psychological effects of colour in your home? Are there colours that affect your mood? Have you ever asked yourself why you feel so tranquil when in a beautifully neutral living space? It’s likely due to the psychology of colours in interior design, closely connecting colour to our emotions.

Designing is a task that requires skills, creativity and innovation and colour is a fundamental building block of interior design. But beyond imagining how interior colours for your home will work best together, it’s important to consider how they make you feel.

There is a series of combinations of colours you could style into your home or workspace and make it beautiful as ever. Listed below are tips for how to use each colour to set the right mood in your home.

HERBAL GREEN – SYMBOLIC OF NEW BEGINNINGS

GREEN EMOTIONS – SAFETY  | HARMONY | STABILITY | RELIABILITY | BALANCE

Earlier this year, Pantone announced pastel green as the Spring 2021 colour trend which is restorative, regenerative, and relates to nature.  It creates a feeling of stability, growth and provides a firm foundation for change and creativity in your home.

As far as the psychology of colours in interior design is concerned, green is an extremely positive hue as it stimulates thoughts of balance, growth and restoration in colour psychology. The hue comes in a variety of attractive shades, ranging from emerald and jade to olive and lime.

The balancing and harmonising colours of green make it a good colour choice for almost any room in the house, but it works particularly well in bedrooms and living rooms. As the colour of nature, green can have a restful, serene effect, giving a sense of stability and security.

Too much green in one room, however, can make it almost too calming. The best way to counteract this in your home would be to inject other vibrant interior colours such as red, purple or orange.

Style Tips: The freshness of green and white bedroom décor is like biting into a crisp green apple. Sprinkle seeds of dark wood or black accessories to complete the fruit of your creation.
