Can I hang wallpaper over paint?

Yes, it can be done. But first, complete preparation must be taken to prepare the walls. Make sure the walls are smoothened, all dents and cracks are removed, and a primer is applied. Once the surface is smooth, wallpaper can be hanged easily.

Can I hang new wallpaper over existing wallpaper?

It can be done, but it is not recommended. The new layer of home wallpaper will put extra pressure on the old wallpaper, and may cause the paper to come off the walls. Moreover, new wallpaper cannot be installed over textured or vinyl coated wallpapers underneath. The best course is to remove all old wallpaper before installing any new one.

Why is it important to prep my walls?

Preparing your walls means taking steps to ensure that the wallpaper adheres correctly to the wall. This will give you the best wallpapering results. Remove any types of residues from the wall. The wall must be roughened with sandpaper too. Make sure your walls are in the best condition prior to applying wallpaper for walls.

Do I need to prime the wall before installing wallpaper?

Priming is an important part of the wallpapering process. It basically seals your walls to prevent the wallpaper paste from being absorbed into porous surfaces, and allows the paste to grip on slick surfaces. Using primer gives an ideal and uniform surface for your wallpaper to stick to. Priming the wall also helps with wallpaper removal when the time comes.

What size is a roll of wallpaper?

The standard size for a single roll of wallpaper is approximately 53cm x 10m (1ft 7in x 32ft 8in). Depending on the wallpaper manufacturer, some rolls can be wider and also shorter in length. Before placing the order, make sure you check the size of the wallpapers.

Can I use wallpaper in the bathroom & kitchen?

Yes. Vinyl-coated wallpapers are recommended for use in bathrooms and kitchens. They have a higher resistance to moisture and are generally splash-proof. No wallpaper for walls is recommended for use in direct contact with water. In the bathroom, use wallpaper in the dry area or in the powder room. Similarly in the kitchen, use wallpaper where it does not come into direct contact with heat or water.

What are the different wallpaper materials?

Wallpapers can be made of various kinds of materials. Vinyl-based wallpapers are the most common home wallpaper we use. Other types include non-woven wallpaper, foil-based wallpaper, embossed wallpaper, fabric-based wallpaper, and more.
